There’s no getting around Poshmark’s shipping fees, whether they’re paid by the seller or buyer (or both). However, in this blog post, we share three little-known facts that will help everyone come out ahead.

## 1. Free shipping isn’t actually a good deal

Sometimes sellers offer free shipping on certain items. While this does effectively reduce the mental barrier associated with a non-refundable purchase, it actually ends up being more expensive than it could have been!

As an example, say you’re selling an item for $60 with free shipping. Because Poshmark takes 20% of the item price itself, you’ll receive $60 - $18 (20% commission) - $7.67 (shipping) = $40.33.

Now, working in the other direction, if you wanted to receive a profit of at least $40, you could have listed the item for $50 without free shipping. In this scenario, the buyer would have paid $50 + $7.67 (shipping) = $57.67 and you would have made $50 - $10 (20% commission) = $40.

Though the difference is on the order of dollars, sometimes that’s what a sale comes down to! If you have an item with free shipping that’s not selling, we’d recommend dropping the price and removing the shipping discount – likers will get notified of a price drop and ultimately pay less, and you’ll still make the same profit! Win-win.

## 2. You can send offers without discounted shipping

When you send an “offer to likers”, you have to specify discounted shipping, further eating away at your profit (as described above)! One way to get around this is to instead use “My Shoppers”.

In the Poshmark app, if you click on “My Shoppers” followed by “Likers”, you’ll see a list of people who have liked one or more items in your closet. Clicking on an individual will then allow you to construct a bundle using their likes, and send them an offer **without** discounted shipping! A bundle also allows you to have a private conversation via the comments, so this is a great opportunity to mention how fast you can ship the items, and ultimately close the sale.

## 3. Poshmark occasionally offers discounted shipping

Poshmark has periodic “Closet Clear-Out” events, where you’re prompted to lower the prices of your items. What you may not have known about these days, though, is that if you drop the price at least 10% from the historical low, and the final price is $10 or more, the item gets discounted shipping for 6 hours. This difference is covered by Poshmark!

For most items, shipping will be discounted to $4.99 or $3.99. For higher priced items, this discount could be even steeper, and possibly even free. If you edit an item such that it’s eligible, it’s a good idea to comment on the item and let likers know that they can take advantage of this promotion for a limited amount of time. Again, although the savings are only a few dollars, sometimes it’s just enough to convince a buyer to take the leap.

3 Secrets about Poshmark Shipping

Why you should use a Poshmark bot, what you should look for when choosing one, and an objective comparison of the 10 most popular ones.


Let’s be honest, there are *a lot* of Poshmark bots out there. And that’s because **the key to being successful on Poshmark is simple, but time-consuming: sharing.**

When you share an item, it jumps to the top of search results and your followers’ feeds, making it more likely to be seen, liked, re-shared, and eventually sold. Therefore, sharing throughout the day is the best way to move inventory, and a Poshmark bot is a common investment made by sellers.

## Are Poshmark bots allowed?

Poshmark bots are in violation of Poshmark’s community guidelines, but not mentioned in their terms of service. Therefore, **use is discouraged, but not prohibited**.

In practice, Poshmark has been hands-off about taking action against sellers using bots responsibly. This is because there is a tipping point where automation goes from helping the platform, to hurting it.

If always used in moderation, Poshmark bots would stimulate activity, increasing both buyers’ and sellers’ overall engagement. However, if used irresponsibly, Poshmark bots could diminish the overall experience. For example, excessive sharing could easily overwhelm the feed, making it difficult to discover or surface other listings.

## Top four considerations

To guard against harmful sharing practices, Poshmark has implemented two main protections. First, if your sharing patterns are suspicious (e.g., sharing 500 times in 15 minutes), Poshmark will increasingly ask you to complete CAPTCHAs. Second, if your shares exceed a maximum daily limit, Poshmark will place you in “share jail”, preventing you from sharing, commenting, and liking for 24 hours.

1. **Ability to solve CAPTCHAs:** In order to share smoothly and consistently, an ideal Poshmark bot should solve CAPTCHAs for you. Unfortunately, this is an advanced feature, and the majority of Poshmark bots instead offer a “CAPTCHA alarm”, which makes a noise when it needs a human to intervene.

2. **Fixed share limit:** Similarly, an ideal bot should draw a line between automation and excess, and set a limit on the number of shares per day. Otherwise, the bot will quickly get the seller in trouble with Poshmark.

3. **No supervision necessary:** As a bonus, an ideal bot should continue to run without human intervention. If you need to keep your computer on, phone app open, etc., then the times during which you can share are greatly limited.

About 6 months ago, Poshmark changed the default sort order from “Just shared” to “Relevance”. This means when you searched for a brand or style, you saw what ranked highly according to Poshmark’s algorithm. This was frustrating for two reasons: first, the algorithm wasn’t perfect, and would sometimes show results that were incorrect. Second, because it wasn’t clear how to get your listings recognized by the algorithm, some sellers’ listings were effectively hidden altogether, bringing sales to a standstill.

Prior to this change, sellers could rely on sharing their listings (or, more commonly, using a [Poshmark bot](/blog/featured-1) to share their listings) to increase engagement. Suddenly, sellers had to go back to the drawing board, and experiment with their titles, descriptions, images, etc., hoping to crack the code. For many people, reselling is a full-time occupation, so adding this uncertainty on top of sourcing and listing new inventory was extremely harmful to their business.

Selling secondhand is great for the environment, but no one said it was simple 😊. Getting started on Poshmark requires a bit of legwork, but once you get the hang of it, you’ll find yourself incrementally adding and shipping items with ease. Below, we’ve put together 10 tips on how to effectively sell on Poshmark.

## 1. Accurate listings

The most important part of any listing is its accuracy. A buyer will be disappointed if the item arrives and is different than described, which could also lead to a poor rating for you. When creating a new listing, make sure to verify the brand, size, color, and description. Although it’s tedious, doing it correctly once is enough to prevent problems down the line. A win-win for yourself and the buyer!

## 2. Clear images

The average seller won’t have the time and resources to take beautiful photographs, but there’s still something to be said about clear images. I minimally aim for a set of four: front of item, back of item, picture of tag, and picture of myself wearing the item. I also try to keep the background clean and consistent (usually just a white wall). To be honest, this takes *time*, but because Poshmark doesn’t offer free returns, it really helps increase a potential buyers’ confidence.

Sometimes you’ll see sellers using stock photos taken from the brand’s website. Although this makes showcasing an item easier, it also violates DMCA regulations, and Poshmark will remove your listing if they find it’s using a copyrighted or trademarked photo. In my opinion, it’s better to be safe than sorry.

## 3. Descriptive titles

When anybody searches for a specific brand and style on Google, Poshmark listings will actually appear at the top of the page! This is great news for sellers, because it means that targeted buyers, whether on Poshmark or not, will see your item at its discounted price. Including keywords is also a great way to quickly convey the condition of your item, such as:

- NWT = New with tags
- NWOT = New without tags
- EUC = Excellent used condition

## 4. Realistic prices

Poshmark is an efficient marketplace, meaning that the perceived value of your item will largely be determined by the value of other items on the platform. When you create a listing, Poshmark will actually suggest a price range based on similar listings, and you can click on the link to understand which listings they’re referring to. You can also perform a manual search if you want to narrow the scope to only identical listings.

When calculating a final price, remember that Poshmark will take 20% of your sale as commission (or $2.95 for sales under $15), and the seller will pay $7.67 in shipping. For smaller items, this can really widen the gap: for example, listing an item at $10 will result in $6.95 for the seller at a price of $17.67 for the buyer. For that reason, I use $15 as a minimum price, knowing that I’ll likely get a lower offer that I can evaluate later.

## 5. Fast shipping

In a world where 2-day free shipping and returns is the norm, Poshmark’s flat-rate shipping and final sale policies are in stark contrast. That’s why it’s important to make the experience positive by shipping quickly. I always keep a small box handy so I can package sales on the same day, drop them in the mailbox, and guarantee they’ll be shipped the next morning.

## 6. Discounts on bundles

Another way to sweeten the deal is to offer discounts on bundles. A bundle is a collection of items in your closet, grouped together by a potential buyer. In your Poshmark Account Settings, under “My Seller Discounts”, you can offer a standard discount on bundles of various sizes (10% off 2 items, 15% off 3 items, etc.). This will incentivize buyers to look through the other items in your closet, since the price of shipping will be fixed.

## 7. Quick responses

Poshers can leave comments on specific items or their created bundles. To close the deal, it’s beneficial to address any questions right away, and maybe make a private offer to the buyer in question. Poshmark does not allow editing or deleting comments, so be sure to double-check any details before clicking “Send”!

## 8. Seasonal items

The most common type of clothing purchase is for a seasonal item that can be worn in the near future. If you’re new to Poshmark, I’d recommend posting your seasonal listings first: a winter coat may be great, but it’s still way less likely to sell in the summer! Similarly, just before a season change, go through your closet and see if there’s anything you’d like to sell. By listing ahead of the curve, you’ll gain a competitive edge.

## 9. Strategic relists

Poshmark promotes “New Listings” in a special category at the top of Poshers’ feeds. Even if your listing isn’t new, you can *relist* it to make it seem that way. To do so, simply click “Edit Listing”, followed by “Copy Listing”, and create a duplicate listing before deleting the original one. A relisted item will not retain the comments and likes from the original item, so it’s important to relist thoughtfully (e.g., if an item has 20 likes, it would be more advantageous to offer/price drop than relist). At the end of a season, I typically go through my items with 0 likes and relist them.

## 10. Frequent shares

Last, but definitely not least, **[sharing](/blog/featured-1) is the best way to sell quickly** on Poshmark. For new sellers with 50+ listings, I recommend sharing 2,000 times a day. As your closet size grows, you can gradually work your way up.

If you’re reading this, you probably already know that **sharing is the best way to gain traction on Poshmark**. But the two questions that remain up for debate are: what time of day is best, and how long should you wait between shares?

## Oversharing

Before we get too deep into sharing, let’s first talk about oversharing. In order to prevent abuse of the platform, Poshmark has implemented very reasonable limits on the amount an individual can share every day. Although the official limit is 10,000 shares, a seller’s personal limit will depend on their closet size and sharing history, and be at most 8,000 shares. Any more, and sellers put themselves at risk of landing in “share jail”.

Share jail sounds scary, and it is! If you find yourself in share jail, Poshmark will prevent you from sharing, commenting, and liking for 24 hours. Beyond that, there are various urban legends, such as a short-term probation period, or long-term black mark on your account. Although we can’t say for sure, it’s clear that share jail should be avoided at all costs.

Now, of course a human could never share 8,000 times a day, and a bot could. That’s why **avoiding share jail is as simple as choosing a safe Poshmark bot**. A bot that shares at a moderate pace, respects the daily limit, and generally endeavors to be as human-like as possible, is your best bet to share broadly, but responsibly.

## When to share

In terms of the ideal time to share, there are two schools of thought: “peak” hours (morning rush, after lunch, before bed), and waking hours. The first makes sense in a localized context, but because Poshmark ships to the entire United States and its territories (including Alaska, Hawaii, and Puerto Rico), **we believe that it’s better to share during waking hours**. A slow time for you is likely to be a busy time across the country, so sharing consistently gets you access to a larger customer base.

An important distinction here is waking hours, versus all day. We highly discourage sharing 24/7, as sharing during sleeping hours is an easy way to get flagged by Poshmark.

## What delay to use

[Most Poshmark bots require supervision](/blog/main), greatly limiting the time during which you can share. As a result, sellers often choose the shortest delay allowed (usually 1 second), hoping to simply share as much as possible.

While a Poshmark bot could theoretically share even more quickly, there’s one major downside: CAPTCHAs. When sharing impossibly fast, Poshmark will increasingly ask you to complete CAPTCHAs, and your bot cannot continue sharing until they’re solved.

For this reason, **we recommend a delay of at least 5 seconds** between shares. When your time is limited, your audience is also limited, so duplicate shares are less powerful. Instead of focusing on the total share count, we think it’s more worthwhile to improve the consistency of sharing. By opting for a human-like delay, your Poshmark bot should be able to share without interruption.
